Give the kids a great bank holiday without spending a penny

The sun is shining and all you want to do is have a great time with your kids, right? But, let us guess, you are also trying to watch the pennies and are struggling to balance giving them a good time with not spending any money.

We can appreciate that this must feel like an impossibility, but a few ideas will help you to believe that children can have just as much fun in the sun without mum and dad getting out their wallets and splashing the cash.

Depending on the age of the children, some parents will find it easier than others to pull off the ‘fun without spending the cash’ plan but everyone can do it, that’s a fact.

If you have toddlers and young children it will be far easier to entertain them than it would be for parents of teenagers, but it is definitely manageable whatever the age. Toddlers and young children don’t need anything other than the good weather and a few toys in the back garden. The variety and possibilities are endless. If the weather is glorious, the best thing for a young child is to play in water and sand. A paddling pool bought from the supermarket for less than a fiver will do the trick, as will a sandpit if you have one. Kids of that age love exploring and will happily play for hours pouring water and building sandcastles. They can also do a bit of gardening as well as some painting and colouring. The latter is particularly great if you don’t like messy chaos in the house. A lot of the time parents are reluctant to get the messy chalk and paints out because they know only too well the devastation that can be caused by a wayward toddler holding a paintbrush, but lovely summer weather allows fun like this to be had outdoors where there is no issue if there’s a bit of paint spilt. The possibility for outdoors play in the sunshine is endless, and none of it costs any money whatsoever.

Again, the lovely weather also helps at snack times and lunchtime. A picnic in the sunshine is so much fun for a toddler and is seen as a real treat. Once the kids have got a little fed up in the garden, you can always take them to the local park – again it costs nothing and is a change of scenery for them. It also keeps them fit and active.

If you do all these free and fun things with your youngsters you will more than likely find you will all have had a great day and spent absolutely nothing in the process, it really is win win.

Some parents, however, still think that sunshine spells a trip to the waterpark with all the children. Before you know it this kind of mentality can see you spending hundreds of pounds on just one day. It’s nonsensical.

Children don’t need this kind of money spending on them to have a good time.

However, if you are hell bent on giving your child an action-packed day, then please check out online discount codes to help ease the financial burden of the trip. Days out like the aforementioned are so expensive and can prove to be a real headache.

If you have been planning to go to an area like this for some time, you may also be better off saving up beforehand, then you won’t feel as much financial pressure.
