Reports that Theresa May and her Cabinet have agreed to offer the EU £40 billion pounds should come as bad news for everyone. But just to show how bad it is, we will break it down for you.
If the Cabinet do offer Brussels the totally unjust £40 billion pounds of tax payer’s money then people should know that for every man woman and child in the UK. The Government will hand over £615 each. Not only that, the interest on that £615 would stand at an additional £18 per person per year at the rate at which the Government currently sells its bonds at.
With the country in so much debt at the moment, people might be forgiven in thinking that another £40 billion pounds wouldn’t matter much. But it often helps when money is broken down into smaller amounts. In this case when people realise that the Government is taking £615 from their pockets and handing it to European Union politicians for no reason. They might be a little bit upset.
Just to put this into some kind of scale. The whole of the PPI mis-selling scandal has only just topped £40 billion. If the Government would have just given everyone back £615, they could have saved us all from those annoying phone calls.
£615 would be a lovely little Christmas present around now. Imagine if the Government sent everyone in the land a cheque and said spend it how they like.
